Tooth Extraction

Tooth Extraction

Dr. Nguyen use every conservative treatment options to save a tooth. However in some cases, a tooth cannot be saved and a tooth extraction is performed. At Bee Dental Care we use several techniques to extract a tooth gently and with precision and ensure it’s as painless as possible.

When does a tooth need to be extracted?

You may need a dental extraction in one or more of the following scenarios –

  • Decayed teeth
  • Fractured or damaged non-restorable teeth
  • Abscessed tooth
  • Crowded tooth
  • Injury or trauma to teeth
  • Gum disease such as periodontitis
  • Orthodontic treatments requiring spacing
  • Cyst associated with a tooth
  • Impacted tooth
What does tooth extraction involve?

To begin with, your dentist, Dr. Nguyen will educate you and discuss the procedure at length including the type of anesthesia you need. We will ensure that you are comfortably numb before the start of the procedure such that you feel no pain. It is normal to feel a sensation of pressure when having a tooth removed. Most teeth can be removed using simple extraction techniques and a local anesthesia should suffice.

Some teeth require a surgical extraction to be removed properly. These are more commonly performed on wisdom teeth or teeth that have broken off at the gum line.

After extraction, a bone graft may be needed for the site to prepare it for cases such as dentures and implants since the bone is preserved this way.

What is the recovery process following tooth extraction?

Once the procedure is complete, Dr. Nguyen will provide you with all the necessary post-extraction instructions. Following the procedure, you will require some extra care and attention to the area.

We may recommend pain medication to help with any discomfort and suggest ways to reduce the swelling in the area.

If you think you might need to have a tooth extracted, we will be more than happy to answer your questions and get you in for an appointment.
Do Wisdom teeth need to be extracted?

Although some people don’t experience any problems with their wisdom teeth, many people need them removed at some point. Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to emerge and by the time they begin erupting, the mouth is full of teeth. This results in crowding, pushing the teeth out of alignment, or they may become impacted and stuck under neighboring teeth resulting in pain, infection, and damage to other teeth.

Can I replace my tooth after extraction?

Absolutely! There are a number of options including –

  • Bridge
  • Partial Dentures
  • Dental Implants
