Clearing and Exam
Routine cleaning and exams are important and highly recommended by your dentist to ensure healthy oral care. The American Dental Association recommends that routine cleaning and exams should take place every 6 months. While home-care such as brushing your teeth and flossing is important to keep your teeth clean and healthy, routine dental visits make sure that good oral hygiene is maintained.
Types of Dental Cleaning
Prophylaxis (regular dental cleaning) – Also known as a Routine Cleaning, prophylaxis appointments occur every 6 months. At this appointment, a dental hygienist removes plaque, calculus (hardened plaque), and stains left on teeth.
Periodontal Scaling and Root Planning (deep cleaning) – This type of cleaning monitors and prevents periodontal disease. It is non-surgical and works to remove any tartar buildup between your gums and teeth.
